Mountain Hardwear Mtn Speed 32 Sleeping Bag -850 Down. An ultralight, high performance sleeping bag with 850 FP treated down, superlight fabric, 7 denier nylon, almost translucent. Ive slept in this bag down to about 30F and stayed comfortable and warm all night. This bag weighs 1 pound 1 ounce on my digital scale. Clean, no stains, odors, abraded spots or tears. Hard to tell from new. This is a very trim bag. It fits me, at 5-11 in my stocking feet and 180 pounds. I always wear a light layer – long underwear and a hat – when sleeping in a bag. I might be able to wear a very thin down sweater in this bag, but it is a slim fit bag. The bag is long enough for me, but just barely. Im not sure it would fit if I were an inch taller. The hood is a typical Mountain Hardwear hood, well designed and comfy, but not generously sized. I fits me when wearing a hat, but no extra room. But this is what you get when you want a 30F bag that is just over one pound. The zipper is 32 inches long, less than half length. I’m 74 and I can slither in and out of the bag without difficulty. The Mountain Speed 32 has a well deserved reputation for having zipper problems. I tried putting clear nail polish on the zipper flaps, which were the problem, but although that helped, it was still a chore getting the zipper to work in either direction. Eventually, I cut the zipper flaps off. They were only about 1/4 inch wide, just wide enough to get under the zipper pull. The zipper now works better than ever, but occasionally there will be a loose thread, a leftover from the zipper flaps, and I have cut them off with a little scissors on my small Swiss Army knife. I zip and unzip slowly, with a finger in front of the zipper pull when zipping. If I meet resistance, I back off and try again. If it happens again, I investigate and sometimes have to clear a loose thread from the path of the zipper. It take less than 5 seconds to run the zipper full length, but avoids problems. The bag comes with a replacement stuff sack and a replacement mesh storage bag. I never used a stuff sack, just put the bag in my pack with the rest of my gear. The Mountain Hardwear Mountain Speed sleeping bag has lightweight fabrics and water-repellent down insulationa great choice for alpinist and backpackers spending nights in damp, cool climes. Shield advanced water repellency technology protects individual down fibers from moisture so they retain loft and insulation properties; Q. Shield won’t wear off. Insulated with lightweight and compressible Q. Shield 850-fill-power goose down, blended and lab-certified in the United States. Performance mummy cut features a snug overall fit that positions the down insulation close to the body, maximizing warmth and minimizing weight without restrictiveness. Nylon shell is lightweight and tear resistant; fabric is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish to repel moisture. Baffle spacing keeps down from shifting and prevents cold spots. Insulated draft tube extends to bottom of zipper to eliminate cold spots. Multi-baffled, tailored hood lies close along the sides of neck and face for easy warmth. When it’s cold enough to cinch down hood, face gasket makes hood closure more comfortable and effective. Comfort footbox is shaped to allow feet to rest naturally; shape preserves loft and allows insulation to drape close to feet for more warmth. Third-length zipper enhances weight savings; snag guards keep fabric from catching in zipper. Ghost Whisperer fabric insulated with water-repellant Q. Shield DOWN maintains maximum loft in damp conditions. Incredibly lightweight and compact, this bag is designed to function as an emergency bag for Ueli-type alpinists. Complete with industry leading weight saving technologies, #3 half-length zipper and efficient cut that maintains comfort and warmth. Q Shield 850 fill down has an advanced treatment applied that resists heat robbing moisture and retains maximum loft in damp conditions. Performance mummy is cut snug, for maximum warmth and minimum weight. Tight 5 baffle spacing maximizes loft. Lightweight half length #3 zipper for easy entry , yet sized to be light weight. Five chamber hood design maintains even loft around head for consistent warmth. Down-filled face gasket comfortably blocks drafts at the hood opening. Insulated draft tube with anti-snag panel prevents cold spots along zipper. Comfort footbox follows natural foot position for maximum warmth and comfort. Single-handed drawcords simplify adjustments. Many sleeping bags are rated for temperature by an independent testing protocol. Ratings are based on a person wearing one long underwear layer and a hat, sleeping on a single 1 in. Everyone’s body and sleep comfort differ, so EN and ISO ratings are simply a guideline to help you compare products.
