MILITARY ISSUE 4 PIECE -40° MODULAR SLEEP SYSTEM MSS w/ GORETEX BIVY. Color: Woodland / OD Green / Black Condition: Mint / Like New Made for the U. Military with Superior Materials and Workmanship NOT A CHEAP INFERIOR IMITATION! Made in the USA. Description: The Modular Sleep System (MSS) is a modular sleeping bag System used by the United States Armed Forces. The MSS consists of 4 individual components that make up the Complete MSS Modular Sleep System. The 4 Piece System is made up of the Following. QTY (1) Woodland Camouflaged, Waterproof, Breathable Gore-Tex Bivy Cover. QTY (1) Lightweight Olive Drab Green Patrol Sleeping Bag. QTY (1) Black Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag. QTY (1) Compression Stuff Sack is included to Store and Carry the System. The Green Patrol Bag Provides Cold Weather Protection from 35 to 50 Degrees Fahrenheit. The Black Intermediate Bag Provides Cold Weather Protection from Minus 5 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. When used together, the Patrol Bag and Intermediate Bags Provide Extreme Cold Weather Protection in Temperatures as Low as Minus 40 Degrees Fahrenheit when used with the ECWCS. The Bivy Cover can be used with Each of Three MSS Configurations (Green Patrol, Black Intermediate, or Combined) to be Compatible with the Environment in which the System is Being Used. The Bivy Cover Provides Environmental Protection from Wind and Water. The Sleeping Bags are made of Ripstop Nylon Fabric and Continuous Filament Polyester Insulation. The Woodland Camouflage Bivy Cover is made with Waterproof, Breathable, Coated or Laminated Nylon Fabric called Gore-Tex. The Compression Sack is made with Water-Resistant, Durable Nylon Fabric. Bivy Cover – The Bivy Cover is made of Durable Waterproof 3 Layer GORETEX Fabric. Color – Woodland Camouflage. Material – Goretex 3 Layer Waterproof. Patrol Sleeping Bag – Rated for temperatures to +30. Reversible double pull slider which allows the top or bottom to aerate. Non-locking slide fastner self repairs if jammed or snagged. The hood adjusts for heat retention. Material – Water resistant, rip-stop nylon. Intermediate Sleeping Bag – Rated for temperatures to -10. Foot area contains twice the insulation as the rest of the bag to keep feet toasty warm. Quilted chest collar prevents air drafts. Hood also adjusts for heat retention. Compression Stuff Sack – Compressible to one cubic foot. Nylon drawcord closure with a barrel lock. May be either 6 strap or 9 strap. Item Condition Mint / Like New – Item will show signs of minor previous gentle use but is in MINT / LIKE NEW condition. No, holes, rips, tears or repairs. Fabric is bright and crisp. Our military surplus items may have been sitting for extended periods in government warehouses collecting dust and dirt. We do not consider dirt or anything that can be easily washed out of the item as a negative impact to quality. This is because not every item has the same “deficiency”. An example would be a trigger finger mitten appearing to be brand new (or they may actually be brand new) except for staining. This staining causes the mittens to be downgraded from brand new to either like new/mint or very good/excellent/nice condition depending upon the extent of the staining. In this example the “intended use” of the trigger finger mittens is not affected by the staining which is to keep your hands nice and warm. In addition, some items may need laundering but all of the items we sell will be serviceable and any deficiencies noted in the listing will not affect the “intended use” of the item. Vintage Overfilled The North Face Chrysalis Down Sleeping Bag. Please read the description of this awesome bag. I bought this bag in 1996 from REI brand new. I immediately sent it to All About Down in Seattle to be overfilled with 700 fill down, which was state of the art back then. All About Down was REIs go-to down garment repair and customization contractor. It was all done through REI. This bag weighs 5.0 pounds. Probably double the weight it was before overfilling. This bag is awesome as a quilt at home either on the bed or for a cold evening on the couch. I used it for car and RV camping with a blanket underneath and this bag draped on top of me. It was like my own private suite lol. It should easily be able to go down below freezing with all that down if you zip yourself in. Very attractive gem stone like purple nylon shell and a silky soft nylon lining. I just took it out of its cotton storage bag to take pics, it will puff up a bit more than shown in these pictures. It has a two-stage zipper system. The upper zipper zips down to the foot box. Then a lower zipper zips around the foot box to lay flat or wrap around your feet and keep your toes toasty warm while the top is open. The bag is clean and completely odor free. Still looks like the day I took it home in 1996. Some lucky person is going to love this bag!
