Vintage circa 1968 WOODS Canvas and Bag Company Mt. Blanc model sleeping bag. In absolute remarkable condition for its age. Do not believe it was ever actually used. Full goose down/feather filling. Green nylon shell with yellow interior lining. Very high loft with no compression of filling at all. See high resolution photos to get best idea of overall condition which is superb. Not sure if this bag is a 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 model as does not indicate on tag and there is no stuff sac. However, the lift is over 7inches high. This bag really is in amazing, clean condition. Zipper in perfect condition. No paint chipping on zipper pull. Teeth on full length plastic zipper all fine and zipper works very smoothly. Nylon has no snags, stains or damage. Bag has always been stored loose, lightly wrapped in a white cotton sheet. Mummy style and can fit large adult. Top has pull so that bag can cinch around head. 85″ inches long by 25″ inches wide (zipped). There is no stuff sac. Still has original New Material Only production tag. Indicates bag was made in Winnipeg, Canada. Perfectly clean with no smells or must. In as near new condition as possible. Would easily be good to -20 celcius winter camping conditions. Marmot Penguin -40 F Goose Down Winter Expedition Sleeping Bag – Vintage, Classic and Rare (yet still extremely functional)! This classic Marmot winter mountaineering bag is the real deal, made in the USA in Grand Junction, Colorado in the early days of Marmot, when they made things… You know, the way they just don’t make them anymore. It’s also the real deal in terms of its ability to keep a person alive on the side of an 8,000m peak at tens of degrees below zero, where this one served duty doing exactly that for my old man back in his crazy days. All baffles are still holding up strong and keeping the 800 fill power down where it should be, and our dedicated loose storage and regular fluffing and rotation routine over the years are evident in this bag’s unbelievablly high loft to this day – it’s as thick and fluffy as any bag out there. From my dad’s tales and my own research, I believe this is Marmot’s first super-subzero Gore-Tex/waterproof professional mountaineering bag. And I can absolutely attest to it being just as warm and effective as it was originally built to be, as it kept me very comfortable (and occasionally a tad TOO hot) during a pair of -25° nights in the Eastern Sierras some years ago. It’s also still very well sealed and waterproof from my own tests, despite some yellowing of the seam sealant. This is an absolute fortress of a winter down bag. The Penguin model is long retired from production, but the closest current equivalent is the Cwm, Marmot’s warmest and most “serious” winter bag. I’m unsure of the exact weight but I believe it’s between 4lb 8oz and right around 5lb. It is 82.5 inches long and generous in the hips and shoulders, which Marmot bags are known for.
