Most of the time you probably won’t even use the zipper. Since the zipper is underneath you no draft tube is necessary- that means less weight and much less chance of a frustrating zipper snag. Getting in and out is as easy as turning the zipper to the side, or just slide in or out the top of the bag. A flat clip at the top of the zipper keeps the zipper securely closed. Zpacks Ultralight 20F Classic Sleeping Bag (Wide and Extra Long). You can use it to conquer the Pacific Crest Trail! I had a conversation with Zpacks and they said the only difference in the new bags is that some of the baffles are now vertical instead of horizontal along the body. It is designed to be an adaptable bag. You can put the lightweight zipper underneath you for cold nights. For warm nights, you can put the zipper on top to use it more like a quilt. This bag is made for a larger person. It is a Wide width, and is the Extra Long length. The fill is 850 Down with the Hyper-dry Water Resistant Treatment. Weight spec is 22.1 oz / 627 grams. I weighed this when I received it and it was 631g. You won’t find a warmer bag at this weight. I have slept in this 10 times (5 nights in Golden Trout Wilderness, 3 nights in Montana on the borders of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, 2 nights on the Mojave Trail). Ironically, the Mojave provided the coldest nights! Every time the bag was used it was in a tent and not on the ground or in the open air. I always wear a full set of silk long underwear when sleeping so this bag is super clean. I switched to a lot more truck camping. This bag needs to go to a ultralight backpacker! The bag appears brand-new on inspection. Zipper and hardware is perfect. The only flaws are a few places where a single outside stitch has gotten a big belly. This was like this from the factory and I did not think it was a problem. This is detailed in the photos. It has always been stored hanging and not in a stuff sack so there is no compression of the down. Please note that while this is listed as a “mummy” bag, it is not designed to cover your head, but only conch around your neck. This is the way these bags are designed to keep the weight down. A smaller person could easily get this bag to cover their head. If you have any questions, please ask! I’m happy to answer, as I know a sleeping bag is very important piece of gear for an ultralight trek. 17.8 oz – Tent. 18.1 oz – Tent + DCF draw string bag. This tent is pitched with one trekking pole and 6-10 stakes (not included). That said, it has three very small holes in the floor that I patched with Zpacks issued DCF tape. This is shown in the pictures. Additionally, I added loops to the floor to secure my sleep pad (also shown). The zipper is a little stiff, but still works without issue. Used the tent last weekend in the rain and stayed totally dry. Cleaned with dish soap and sunshine, ready for a new home. Zpacks discontinued this design in favor of the Plexamid. Zpacks Solo Quilt – Long – Slim Width – 5 Degree. I bought this in late 2017 and have used it on weekend trips, a thru hike of the Benton Mackaye Trail and the Bartram Trail. This is the solo quilt, no zipper. Comes with quilt, pad straps (they work well), cuben pack sack and a cotton storage sack (not zpacks). I picked this up somewhere and would always store in this. I laundered the bag after every trip and washed it this past winter. I had this from 60 degree nights down to 12 degrees. Just getting rid of it to go back to a standard sleeping bag (western mountaineering) my wife bought for me. No tears, no rips, no loss of down. I take really good care of my gear.
