Western Mountaineering Lynx GWS (-10). This is the Western Mountaineering Lynx -10 degree GWS sleeping bag. It has been used 3-4 times. There is no wear, tear, abrasions, or stains on the bag. Vintage Marmot Mountain Works “Gopher” sleeping bag, with goose down insulation and Gore-Tex shell (rated by Marmot at -10°F). Has double draft tubes, the “Marmot Muff” collar around the shoulders, and down-filled hood portion. Total loft varies between about 7-9 inches (higher in the foot and chest area, lower in the mid-section). I believe this is the standard-length bag. Total length is about 80 including hood. Widest width is about 30. Total bag weight (excluding stuff sack) is 3 lbs 10 oz. Has been unused and stored unstuffed! Final graphic is from Marmot catalog in 1977. NOTE: Outer shell on the bottom of the bag was accidentally cut open (by a knife I believe; it was years ago so I can’t remember) in two areas, and has been sewn back together (see last 3 photos). This does not seem to adversely affect its utility, although these repairs have not been seam-sealed (other seams on the bottom have been sealed). Also, the top blue shell is slightly faded (from sunlight) along the upper half of the zipper (see photos). The Gore-Tex shell is water resistant. This bag was not seam sealed. Thank goodness, because the sealer becomes a crusty mess over time. Marmot knew how to add a bit of pure luxury on the trail with the luscious sapphire blue lining fabric. Its amazingly soft to the touch and very comfy. Youll have a hard time leaving the comfort of this bag in the morning! Please do see the picture of the Gore-Tex patch on the back of the bag. The patch is well done and completely retains full function of the shell. This bag might be a bit of history, but it is also still fully functional and light in the pack. Now I go with a bombproof USGI stuff sack if my bag will be externally mounted on my pack. We also throw in a new fleece balaclava, new Neoprene facemask, new disposable Mylar blanket and some other goodies we like to have with us in very cold weather. Every year before you hit any serious weather, I recommend that you treat any bag, even a brand new bag, with NikWax. The bag should be turned inside out and aired out weather permitting-in the sun while preparing and eating breakfast. This will help reduce the amount of body moisture that will build up in the bag.
