Nikwax, no doubt, is some of the very best there is but I have learned the hard way that there is no such thing as waterproof; like when an unexpected thunder storm dumps your canoe over in the middle of a large lake. I once lost a bag on the trail when the Big Name manufacturers stuff sack strap broke. Fortunately, I realized it pretty quickly. Now I go with a bombproof USGI stuff sack if my bag will be externally mounted on my pack. We also throw in a new fleece balaclava, new Neoprene facemask, new disposable Mylar blanket and some other goodies we like to have with us in very cold weather. Every year before you hit any serious weather, I recommend that you treat any bag, even a brand new bag, with NikWax. It is easy to do and REMEMBER: WATER, DOWN & BELOW FREEZING WEATHER DO-NOT-MIX & could turn you into a Permanent ice cube! The bag should be turned inside out and aired out weather permitting-in the sun while preparing and eating breakfast. This will help reduce the amount of body moisture that will build up in the bag. First Ascent – Karakoram -30F Sleeping Bag. Great condition, amazing loft, and super warm! I’ve used it twice (once on Aconcagua and once on Denali), made it to the summit both times. This is by far the most comfortable sleeping bag I’ve ever owned. My climbing partners envied this bag. It packs down nicely and puffs up HUGE! My next climbs are in warmer climates, I’m switching to 0F Karakoram bag, otherwise I’d keep this bag! This bag is perfect for an upcoming trip to Denali! This is a beautiful expedition-quality Western Mountaineering Puma Gore DryLoft -30°F to. Sleeping bag has 5 ounces of overfill! It’s in excellent condition with no stains, tears, punctures or rips of any kind. When not in use it’s been stored uncompressed in a cool, dry basement. It’s just been hand-washed with Nikwax down soap and tumble-dried on low heat for several hours. Bag is like new! 850+ fill power goose down. 8.5 loft, -35° F. Down fill with overfill now 40 oz. Gore DryLoft draft tubes. It’s not quite the same as the current Puma model, but the design is basically unchanged. Gore DryLoft is the same material as Gore Windstopper used in the current model; they changed the labeling a few years ago.
