SIERRA DESIGNS NITRO 800 – 20F QUILT. I bought this quilt last year, as an introduction to sleeping under a quilt when backpacking. This quilt has a number of unique features that cannot be found on most quilts, starting with the hood, which a sleeper can use, or not use on a warmer night. The footbox is sewn and has no opening, making it warmer than a footbox with a zipper and a drawcord to close off the end. And there are pockets in the upper corners, so you can put your hands in the pockets and then wrap the quilt around your body. The quilt is filled with 800FP duck down, 90/10. Many of todays quilts are now filled with duck down, and it is as good as comparably rated goose down, but it is cheaper because people eat ducks, but not geese. The lot number is 1904L18F818. I used this quilt on 4-5 nights in temps from 40F down to 25F. It fits me well, at 5-11 and 180 pounds. It is easily long enough for a person up to about 6-2 or 6-3. And although it officially measures only 46 wide, it is wide enough to seal out drafts when sleeping on my side, even while wearing extra clothing. I sleep on an insulated pad, on the ground, but this quilt would work fine in a hammock. The quilt weighs 1 pound 9 ounces on my digital scale and the quilt is filled with 15 ounces of 800FP down. The quilt is in perfect condition, with no stains, rips, abrasions, loose threads or odors. It has good loft and has lost none of it. I stored it in a laundry sack. Includes the original stuff sack, which I never used, and the original storage sack, which IMO is not big enough. This bag weighs a little less than 2 pounds 4 ounces, and is a medium-to-trim fit, which I like because it is thermally efficient. It has 20 ounces of 800 FP water resistant goose down. The zipper is full length, which a lot of people like easier to get in and out of the bag. And the zipper is two way, i. You can open the bottom a little if you get too warm. The hood is plush, with a muff that surrounds your face. Im 5-11 in my stocking feet and weigh 180 pounds. This bag is more than long enough, and roomy enough, for me.
