Eddie Bauer First Ascent Kara Koram 20deg F sleeping bag – Excellent! This bag has only been used one night indoors (a Forest Service cabin). This bag is extremely light weight at 2.25 lbs and comes with a compression stuff sack (included) but can easily fit in a 10-15 liter syl-nylon bag to save weight (not included). It has been stored uncompressed in the oversize cotton storage bag (included). There is one repaired defect in the bag (see photo). I was careless with a box opener when I received the bag, and I put a 1 inch clean slice on the left side of the bag. No down escaped as I saw it immediately. Rather than try to sew the ultralight fabric, I used a carefully trimmed piece of clear tenacious tape to repair this. The rectangular patch extends well beyond the cut, and the white line that shows is just the tiny edges of down plumes that stuck to the repair tape over the cut. It is a super-secure repair and doesnt have an impact in the usefulness of the bag. Zpacks Ultralight 20F Classic Sleeping Bag (Wide and Extra Long). You can use it to conquer the Pacific Crest Trail! I had a conversation with Zpacks and they said the only difference in the new bags is that some of the baffles are now vertical instead of horizontal along the body. It is designed to be an adaptable bag. You can put the lightweight zipper underneath you for cold nights. For warm nights, you can put the zipper on top to use it more like a quilt. This bag is made for a larger person. It is a Wide width, and is the Extra Long length. The fill is 850 Down with the Hyper-dry Water Resistant Treatment. Weight spec is 22.1 oz / 627 grams. I weighed this when I received it and it was 631g. You won’t find a warmer bag at this weight. I have slept in this 10 times (5 nights in Golden Trout Wilderness, 3 nights in Montana on the borders of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, 2 nights on the Mojave Trail). Ironically, the Mojave provided the coldest nights! Every time the bag was used it was in a tent and not on the ground or in the open air. I always wear a full set of silk long underwear when sleeping so this bag is super clean. I switched to a lot more truck camping. This bag needs to go to a ultralight backpacker! The bag appears brand-new on inspection. Zipper and hardware is perfect. The only flaws are a few places where a single outside stitch has gotten a big belly. This was like this from the factory and I did not think it was a problem. This is detailed in the photos. It has always been stored hanging and not in a stuff sack so there is no compression of the down. Please note that while this is listed as a “mummy” bag, it is not designed to cover your head, but only conch around your neck. This is the way these bags are designed to keep the weight down. A smaller person could easily get this bag to cover their head. If you have any questions, please ask! I’m happy to answer, as I know a sleeping bag is very important piece of gear for an ultralight trek. Stuff sack size – 8″ x 14″. This bag has been recently washed. The name tag inside the main zipper is peeling some. Something sticky, like chewing gum, got stuck inside the foot of the bag. I removed as much of it as i could. It is not sticky anymore, but you can still see it (see photos). The main zipper pull is not the type usually found in sleeping bags. It does not flip around so you can open it from the outside of the bag or the inside of the bag. To zip open the bag from the inside, you need to slide your hand out of the bag and access the zipper pull from the outside (see photo). I would not say this bag is in excellent or like-new condition, but overall, i would say it is in good to great condition. This is a great sleeping bag for cold weather camping and backpacking.
