Buffalo Sleeping Bag Patent 1568103. An excellent condition vintage Buffalo fibre pile and pertex sleeping bag. These bags were made specifically for Survival Aids (Morland Penrith) and adapted for the military market with the addition of shoulder zips. This allows the bag complete with hood to be worn with just a single (or both) arms outside to make a brew, cook or even shoot. The fibre pile and pertex shell gives this bag the ability to stay warm and windproof even when wet. The bag dries very rapidly and does not absorb excess water to become heavy when wet. Sadly a serious accident and 6 surgeries will mean my outdoor days are behind me. Both bags are 4 season outer but this one is actually warmer and weighs 25% more than the other at just a little under 2kg. The other 4 season outer bag is just under 1.5kg. Both bags are over 6 feet 6 inches in length; they are pictured on a king-size bed for scale. Stretched across the shoulders they just about make 30 inches from shoulder to shoulder. This bag also has fibre pile baffles across the face. These bags are on just about every wishlist of people interested in bushcraft and survival. I always combined one of these bags with a top quality goretex bivi bag (also up for sale) if severe wet weather was forecast. On their own however the pertex shell will evaporate light rain, drizzle and dew very quickly and a waterproof bivi is not necessary under these conditions. The pertex is also windproof and highly breathable. I used this bag in winter and the other in spring, summer and autumn (though both are 4 season outer bags). All the current bags do not have the shoulder zips and are the same overall design as the lighter (not this one) of the two bags available. Amazing pieces of kit!
