Western Mountaineering Down Sleeping Bag, Vintage. Similar extreme cold bags from Western Mountaineering are 2-3 times as expensive. I sent it back to Western mountaineering and they put in a new zipper and replaced one of the panels and overstuffed it with more down. I took this bag on a late October camping trip into the Idaho wilderness where the temperatures at night were about 0°F at 9000 feet elevation. I stayed toasty warm so I would rate this bag as a -20 or -30°F but this is just my estimate. The tags do not indicate what model sleeping bag this is. It weighs 5 pounds and 7.4 ounces on my postal scale. This bag can keep you warm in whatever conditions you encounter in the wilderness. You can see from the photos it has approximately 9 inches of loft. It has been stored non-compressed in a climate controlled non-smoking home. It does not have any bad odors. The photos demonstrate a few flaws which do not affect the function of the bag: one patch about 4 inches where it touched a wood-burning stove, two tiny patches less than 1 inch, a couple of stains. There is a tiny rip where are the drawstring for the hood emerges. I’m not planning to camp in winter conditions anymore so I don’t need such a burly bag. Even though this bag is large and lofty (because western mountaineering uses the best quality down) it can be compressed in an extra large sea to summit event stuff sack and squeeze it down to about the size of an ovoid shaped volleyball.
