Nikwax, no doubt, is some of the very best there is but I have learned the hard way that there is no such thing as waterproof; like when an unexpected thunder storm dumps your canoe over in the middle of a large lake. We also throw in a new fleece balaclava, new Neoprene facemask, new disposable Mylar blanket and some other goodies we like to have with us in very cold weather. Every year before you hit any serious weather, I recommend that you treat any bag, even a brand new bag, with NikWax. This is the Bison GWS sleeping bag made by Western Mountaineering. It’s the bag climbers take on seriously cold and high summits and this one was bought in 2014 for Aconcagua. It has never actually been used for a climb. It was taken on a weekend trip as a test run but looks and smells brand new. No rips, holes or stuck zippers.
