Excellent Zpacks 20 degree ultralight down sleeping bag. Zpacks quality materia l and const ruction. The bag opens up underneath you like a blanket for easy temperature control when it is warm out, and a 3/4 length zipper and neck elastic allow you to bundle up when the temperature turns cold. Features (from Zpacks): – Tightly spaced compartments help keep the down evenly distributed. For the most warmth fluff up the down each night by shaking the bag before use. There are no “sewn through” cold spots, including in the foot area. The only cold spot is the zipper, which is positioned on the bottom underneath you. Each chamber is overstuffed with 30% more 900 Fill Power Premium Goose Down than is necessary for maximum loft to account for any future down compression. Down bags can last for decades with care! – Black ripstop nylon on the inside for quick drying. Both the liner and the shell are treated with durable water repellant to resist rain spray and body moisture. The shell material is reasonably durable for normal use, and it can also be repaired easily with matching Nylon Repair Tape. 3/4 Length Zipper extends to your calves. The zipper is positioned on the bottom of the bag giving it two advantages: The bag can easily be opened up for venting in “quilt mode”. Most of the time you probably won’t even use the zipper. Since the zipper is underneath you no draft tube is necessary- that means less weight and much less chance of a frustrating zipper snag. Getting in and out is as easy as turning the zipper to the side, or just slide in or out the top of the bag. A draft tube is available as an option if you want one. A flat clip at the top of the zipper keeps the zipper securely closed. Or use the clip alone with the zipper opened for venting. An Elastic cord can be cinched tight around your neck to keep out drafts, or pull the bag up around your ears. This bag does not have a hood- wear a warm hat, or a Goose Down Hood, or size up in length if you want to pull it up around your head. I bought this bag with 2oz of down overfill. Look at pictures it has an HONEST loft of almost 9.5-10 throughout the body. Bag weighs 3lb 12oz, has 41oz of 850+ down overstuffed inside. The bag is super warm, and ultralight, highest quality throughout. Comes with’Western Mountaineering’ Cotton Storage Bag and Stuff Sack Size XL. This bag is from a personal collection, I bought it to do a serious trip but had to change my plans. The bag is handmade MADE IN USA. Please ask any questions, all sales are final. Western Mountaineering uses the highest lofting premium goose down available for all of our sleeping bags. Our fill power claim of 850 Plus is meant to be a realistic estimate given the variability of the product and the nature of fill power test methods. In reality, our certified tests most often are higher than what we claim. Recently, these testing methods for fill power changed again making the fill power ratings even higher. Now, each sample of down will receive a tumble dry before it is given several days to loft up in a perfectly controlled environment. During that time it is enhanced by using a blow dryer to boost loft. Your sleeping bag will never receive that kind of treatment, and this is why we claim a more practical fill power. Rest assured, we use only the finest goose down available. Our new 20 Denier MicroLite XP microfiber reduces the total weights of the bags in this series by 15 to 20 percent! It is the highest threadcount fabric we have ever used with over 400 threads per square inch. We have worked closely with our supplier to develop this new fabric which is highly water resistant, highly breathable, and very light weight. Its hard to imagine a more impressive combination of performance characteristics in a shell fabric. A microfiber fabric is very water resistant because of its combination of high thread count and makeup of dense yarns. Each micofiber yarn has many more filaments than a normal nylon or polyester yarn of equivalent size. Woven into high thread count material, it becomes a fabric that really keeps wind and water out. Since there is no coating or laminate on the material, it is highly breathable. The fabric construction is responsible for weather proofness, its not something that can wear off, wash out or delaminate. This is the most technologically advanced non-laminated weather resistant fabric available. Look for bags with a microfiber shell if you expect some contact with moisture. We use a #5 YKK coil zipper with two dual direction pulls and locking head. This zipper is lighter weight and less bulky than the old #7 zipper. The coil construction has a less abrasive surface in the event of zipper snags and provides years of trouble free operation. Pre-cut no-see-um netting is what we use for all internal baffles. This material is firm to prevent distortion, but flexible enough to insure compressibility. It is extremely lightweight and durable. All of our fabrics are finished with a DWR, (Durable Water Repellent) that is rated as 80/20. This is an industry measure of durability that suggests that 80% DWR is retained after 20 washings. Sleeping Bag Fill & Construction. Added together, its all these little details that make a great sleeping bag and push Western Mountaineering over the top! For instance, all of our winter bags with the Full Down Collar are made with Interlocking Double Draft Tubes. When the bag is zipped these large stoutly filled tubes rest side by side rather than on top of each other. That way these Interlocking Draft Tubes retain their full loft without being compressed as the zipper closes. When a bag has a single draft tube it will hang from the top so that the zipper wont inadvertently be exposed while moving inside the bag. A Dacron stiffening tape is sewn alongside each zipper to prevent snags. Our Hook and Loop closures are backed with fabric to prevent fraying and are placed on non-integral parts of the bag like the draw cord casing. At a glance you will be able to tell which bags have single or double draft tubes, passive or full down collars, continuous baffles and the type of side block baffle.
