Sea to Summit Spark SPI – Lightweight Down Sleeping Bag. The Spark – a delicate balance of size, weight & warmth. The clever combination of ULTRA-DRY Down, the micro-weight 10D nylon shell and the 15D lining ensures that your bag stays dry & warm – wherever you are. The secret to the Spark’s warmth to weight ratio is in the premium quality goose down, the 1/3 length, light-gauge #3 YKK zip and the high performance micro-weight shell/liner fabrics. The close-fitting mummy bag includes a full hood, foot box as well as a short zip to maximise the fit and warmth whilst keeping weight and bulk to a minimum. A box-wall baffle construction is utilised for heat retention and the head/neck baffles have been enlarged to trap vital warmth. The Spark is filled with 850+ loft ULTRA-DRY Down (90/10 European Goose down) insulation. The shell is built from an ultra-light 10-denier nylon that has been treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) finish. The soft-touch liner is a high-density weave, 15-denier nylon. A sew-through transverse baffle construction is utilised for heat retention. Includes lightweight Ultra-Sil ® compression bag, mesh storage cell and laundry bag. The compressed size is 1.55L. User Height – 192cm Internal Girth – 152cm Chest / 132cm Hip / 94cm Foot Total Weight – 390g. EN13537 Temperature Ratings Explained. Everyone sleeps differently; some people are very warm sleepers while others feel the cold easily. There are many factors that affect your warmth and comfort in a sleeping bag. An important factor is that you use a good insulating mat to prevent your body heat from being drawn into the cold ground. Other factors include your tent or shelter, gender and metabolism, clothing, sleeping bag liner, use of the hood and your daily calorie intake. Although the EN13537 standard does not identify a single precise temperature a tested sleeping bag is suitable for, it does provide an industry standardised temperature range that a typical user can refer to as a guide for the conditions their bag will be most comfortable in. The EN13537 standard provides three temperature levels to guide a consumer in their choice: COMFORT The temperature at which a standard woman can expect to sleep comfortably in a relaxed position. LOWER LIMIT The temperature at which a standard man can sleep for eight hours in a curled position without waking. The EN13537 temperature tests use a thermal manikin with heaters and temperature sensors to measure the insulation value of a sleeping bag. This manikin is wearing one layer of long underwear and is placed inside the sleeping bag on an insulating mat. The test is conducted in a temperature controlled chamber and a range of comfort temperatures are derived from measuring the energy required to maintain homeostasis in the manikin to a set temperature. All Sea to Summit sleeping bags have been tested to the EN13537 standard. We recommend you use our EN13537 quoted ratings as a guide and a comparative reference to other EN13537 tested bags. Lighter than an imaginary cloud (and far warmer), Marmot’s Helium 15-Degree Down Sleeping Bag is the perfect bag for long, chilly trips when added ounces can mean serious slowdowns. The Helium is part of Marmot’s Ultralight series, which isn’t quite as airy as the barely-there Ion, but it’s a lot more affordable and still a killer three-season bag for backpacking, camping, and alpine missions. Pertex Microlight and nylon ripstop fabrics keep the superlight 800-fill goose down from escaping, and Marmot’s Smooth-Curved baffle construction prevents the insulation from shifting around, so you’re not fighting cold spots as you drift off to sleep. The Helium also sports an anatomically designed footbox and drawcord hood to keep your extremities toasty, and it uses a dual-zipper construction to let you fold down the top of the bag to sit up and increase ventilation when the night is a little warmer than expected. This is a toasty warm sleeping bag in near new condition. I used it on a three week tea house trek to Everest Base Camp. All nights were spent indoors, on a mattress, while wearing a pair of dedicated sleeping clothes that were never hiked it. It hasn’t even seen the inside of a tent!!! Size Reg with a left zip. Marmot recommends this size for users up to 6ft. The hood fit snug while sleeping on my back, however users over perhaps 6’2 might want a little more length. I bought this premium 800-fill down 0F degree sleeping bag (Regular, Right Zipper) a while ago, but rarely used it (thanks to my backcountry insomnia, I stick to day hikes only). Its been on 2 or 3 winter backpacking trips. It’s been stored in a cloth Montbell bag in my closet, so it has maintained its loft very well. Used a total of less than 15 days. Short length, right hand zip. This sleeping bag is one small notch below the top, top of the line. It is not quite the quality of a Western Mountaineering bag but every bit comparable to Marmot (Lithium Membrain) or Mountain Hardware’s upper end sleeping bags. The attention to detail is impressive and the subtle gray color is pleasing. The bag has always been stored in its cotton storage sack, indoors, closeted, warm, dark and dry. Perfect for cold weather backpacking, ski touring, and cold sleepers. Weighs 3lbs 5 oz on my scale stuffed full of 750 fill down to >/= 8 loft. Marmot helium sleeping bag. This was the nicest, lightest bag available when it was bought. In the 10 years i’ve had it, i’ve used it a grand total of once. It’s in excellent condition. Turns out a sleeping bag for backpacking doesn’t get used by someone who hates backpacking.
