The US Military Improved ACU Modular Sleep System (MSS) is a sleeping bag system constructed to insulate the user in environments ranging from mild weather to extremely cold weather. The system consists of two Mummy-style sleeping bags-the Patrol (Foliage) and the Intermediate Cold Weather (Urban Grey). Each are constructed of water-resistant, ripstop nylon. Each sleeping bag is fully functional independently. For a temperature to -30°, insert the Intermediate Cold Weather bag inside the Patrol bag. Each bag is compatible with the vapor permeable Bivy cover. When all 3 components are used together the system is rated to provide 4 hours sleep at -40°F. Non-flammable and machine washable. This is a genuine US Army surplus Gore-Tex Bivy Cover, a component of the Improved Modular Sleep System, or IMSS. This listing is for the bivy cover only; no other components of the sleep system are included. You can use this bivy cover around any sleeping bag, but it is designed to snap into the other components of the Modular Sleep System. Made of Waterproof/Windproof 3-layer Gore-Tex. Secures with Snaps, Zippers, and Hook and Loop Fasteners. Measures 85 x 28 x 35. Made in the USA by Tennier Industries The bivy cover is dark grey on the bottom and has an ACU camouflage pattern on the top. It is made with a 3-layer GORE-TEX fabric, making it fully waterproof. It has a zippered closure with snaps for connecting to the other sleep system components. It also features Hook and Loop fasteners around the hood which can be fastened to prevent openings during rainy or extremely cold weather. This would make a great bivy cover for all-season camping. This bivy cover may be combined with the Patrol Sleeping Bag and the Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag to form the Improved Modular Sleep System.
