This bag has been lovingly cared for and has always been properly stored. It has fantastic loft, is thick and full. It is unbelievably thick (folded in half it is almost 8 inches thick uncompressed). Made in Canada and filled with goose down. There is no brand label. Attached hood with fleece lining on one side and nylon on the other. The hood needs sewing on the top and in the corner. Neither item affects its use. Right or Left side zip as it is reversible. Measurement for its width is approximately 26 inches. This is a great sleeping bag for fall or winter. Canadian Military Surplus -40 rated winter sleeping bag system. Includes an inner and outer down filled sleeping bag, fleece liner, scarf and compression bag. The “GOOD” condition sets are in good usable condition, but will show the results of years of use in the field, the down is still full and fluffy. Most of the sleeping bags will have been repaired, sewn on the longer tears or Great Gear tape on the very small holes. Zippers will work on the bags, compression bags all have defects or have been repaired, fleece liners all have been sewn (I think they must wear their boots to bed, because almost every fleece liner I get is ripped, so I fix them), scarves will have defects, such as small holes or rough edges. There is nothing worldwide in the market that can compare to these bags. They are the perfect combination of design, materials, practicality, and workmanship. The result is a versatile bag that will keep you warm and comfortable in any weather and environment. The set is a modular system, which means you can use some of the components together or all of the components, or any combination. When all 3 bag parts are used together you will be warm in -40 temperatures. The design is a combination of a mummy bag and a regular width rectangular shaped sleeping bag the result is a bag that is almost as portable as a mummy bag with the roominess of a square bag. The individual component size is listed below. The goose down insulation and the multiple layers of nylon shell material gives the entire set a weight of 12.4 lbs -or- 5.6 kg. Other bag sets on the market may be lighter but they are no way nearly as warm. The goose down also compresses down well, if the included stuff sack / compression bag is used it is possible to get the set down to an approximate 16 long x 12 diameter. COLD WEATHER SLEEPING BAG. A modular sleep system from the Canadian Armed Forces; perfect for cold weather adventures. We believe this Canadian kit is the warmest military-surplus sleep system available. Consisting of five separate components, the kit offers significant protection from extreme cold: 1. Nylon with down insulation. Weight: 2.28 kg. Width: 80 cm (shoulder), 50 cm (foot). Weight: 2.24 kg. Width: 75 cm (shoulder), 50 cm (foot). Nylon outer, cotton inner and synthetic insulation together with Velcro fastenings and elasticated arm loops. Water resistant nylon with a draw-code closure. Can be used as an emergency water carrier. Total weight: 5.9 kg. Packed size: 66 x 37 cm. Both bags feature high quality brass YKK zips and baffles along the length of each to eliminate cold spots. Ties allow the bags and liner to be fastened together. Each bag can be used individually, with or without the hood, depending on the conditions. The hood is designed to be worn like a balaclava; the sleeping bag then fastens around the collar of the hood which extends down the back, shoulders and chest. Velcro at two positions on the hood allow the opening to be adjusted based on the temperature and user’s preference. This design minimises the risk of exhaling into the bag, reducing the likelihood of the bag getting damp and the insulation becoming less effective. The’loft’ on the down is fantastic and will provide high levels of insulation. Please note that this is just an estimate. Our research on the internet suggests these bags were originally rated to -40 °C. For comparison, the last picture shows one of our used Canadian bags next to an Alpkit Alpine Dream 900 (-20 °C comfort rated). Condition All components are in superb condition. The two bags may have been used but there are no signs they have – they are clean, fresh and undamaged. The loft on the down is excellent. Liner, hood and storage sack are all excellent too. The waterproof coating on the inside of the bag looks like new. Overall one of the best we’ve seen. Pictures show an identical item.
