When you need a reliable Winter/Alpine sleeping bag, it’s not advisable to skimp on quality. Enter: The Western Mountaineering Puma MF. If you have been researching high end sleeping bags, you’ve probably come across Western Mountaineering as one of a very few companies recognized as the pinnacle of their craft. For starters, all their bags are handmade in the US and always have been. Although their bags come in a few different shell materials, their MicroFiber(MF) is the best all around. It’s super breathable to allow your vapor to escape at night but still remains highly water resistant to effectively deal with condensation. All of their bags are also filled with the highest quality down available, for maximum loft, compression and longevity. The Puma MF is the 2nd warmest bag they make and rated at -25. This is the 6′ model and weighs in at a scant 3lbs 7oz. This bag has been used literally 4 or 5 nights and is in immaculate condition. If I still had the tags, I could easily sell it as brand new. It’s always been stored by hanging it in a closet, so the down has never been compressed except for the couple of weekends I’ve gone Winter camping. 600 Fill goose down, rated to 0 degrees! Weighs a bit over 3 lbs. Good zipper that opens at bottom to ventilate your feel if desired. Boy, is this a warm bag! Too warm for most lower-elevation applications here in SoCal BUT fantastic for really chilly temps. I used it for a couple fall Sierra Nevada overnights and one Yosemite area snow-camping trip, where it kept me toasty warm at subfreezing temps at 11,000 feet. Only used a handful of times, never abused. Always stored unstuffed to keep the down fluffy. No stains/dirty areas/weird smells/ rips or other issues. All seams & zipper are solid. Couldn’t find the stuff sack but they are readily available at any REI or similar outlet. Mountain Equipment Snowline SL (super light) sleeping bag, bought new in 2017 for Everest base camp trek which it performed brilliantly (was a lovely bag to be in after each days trekking).
