The Modular Sleep System (MSS) is a bag-within-a-bag style sleeping bag system, developed in 1997 for the United States Army. The MSS consists of a camouflaged, waterproof, breathable Bivy Cover. A lightweight Patrol Sleeping Bag. And an Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag. A Compression Stuff Sack. Is included to store and carry the system. The patrol bag provides cold weather protection from 35 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The intermediate bag provides cold weather protection from minus 5 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Together, the patrol bag and intermediate bags provide extreme cold weather protection in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The bivy cover provides environmental protection from wind and water. Sleeping bags are made of ripstop nylon fabrics and continuous filament polyester insulation; camouflage bivy cover is made with waterproof, breathable, coated or laminated nylon fabric; the compression sacks are made with water-resistant, durable nylon fabric. The MSS components can be combined in different configurations to match the environment and temperature needed. Each component has double sided snaps down both sides of the zipper that securely attach each component to the other. These snaps essentially allow two or three components attached together to function as a single sleeping bag.

Two (2) Pieces Modular Sleeping Bag, Intermediate Cold, & Patrol by Tennier, Excellent Condition, US Army. Excellent Condition, may have some writing or spot but is in Excellent Condition. Some may have small stains. The label of the sleeping bag may have a name or number marked. It was obtained via surplus and will show signs of long term storage. Why are there different NSN Options? Over the years, different government contractors have produced these items under different NSN numbers. Rest assured these are all the exact same product, they just have different part numbers. The Improved Modular Sleep System (IMSS) Intermediate Sleeping Bag is the perfect sleeping bag for scouting, camping, or just being prepared. This heavyweight, durable, mummy style sleeping bag is ideal for cold to freezing weather. The bags snap together making a system that will keep you warm when the temperature drops below -10°F. The Intermediate Bag alone is heavy weight bag and excellent for use during cold weather. The durable rip-stop nylon shell and continuous filament polyester insulation is constructed to withstand the rigors of combat. The mummy design helps keep you warm and the generous “boot box” at the bottom is designed to allow the user to keep his or her boots on, either for added warmth or in case a quick exit is needed. Durable YKK zippers are used on either end of the bag allowing wearers to customize the amount of ventilation. Zippers are dual sided and can be easily accessed from the inside. Free from cold spots. Insulation does not migrate in the bag. Anatomically designed foot box contains twice the insulation as the bag. Sewn-in, quilted chest collar prevents air drafts up and down through the hood. This 2000s US Army USGI MSS Green Modular Sleep System includes one Patrol Sleeping Bag, one Intermediate Sleeping Bag and one Woodland Camouflage Bivy Cover and is in very good condition overall and only shows modest signs of age and service. The SPO contract tags show production took place around 1996, 1997 and 2001 by Tennier Industries Inc. I could not locate any rips, tears or holes on either bag after close examination but did find a small wear spot on the bivy cover that could be noticed when rolled up. All hardware appears to be clean and functions exactly as you would expect. Each piece in this group appears to be very clean and look as if they saw little action. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of contents and condition, this is the sleeping bag system you will receive.
